Precious Parks is Generation One’s Head of School, where she oversees programming and operations for early education and youth education in Houston’s Third Ward. She has been in the early care and education field more than 20 years. As an elementary principal, assistant principal and teacher she has seen first-hand the outcomes of when home and school fails todo their part. Leading a low-performing school with high-behavior needs allowed her to create a strategic plan to mitigate the lack of social-emotional learning implementation from the home and community. It also became evident that teachers struggled to thrive during hard times. As a part of her action plan, it became necessary to coach teachers about the importance of self-care through goal-setting, living your strengths, time management and addressing mental wellness.
Since joining the Generation One team, she has worked diligently with staff to grow in knowledge and practice of social emotional strategies in the home, parents seeking therapy, and removing the stigma of working mental health professionals to gain skills to cope and thrive in hard times. Prior to joining Generation One, Parks served in leadership roles at KIPP schools including School Leader (KIPP Peace), Lower School Dean (KIPP Legacy), Kindergarten Reading Teacher/Content Lead (KIPP Legacy).
Parks is a wife of 23 years and a mom of 4 in elementary, middle, and high school. In her spare time she loves to workout, read, travel and make music.
Precious Parks holds a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Houston, and a M.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Houston Clear Lake, where she is a current Educational Leadership doctoral student.
