How You Can Help
Who do you know that could help us serve this community with their time, talents and resources? There are multiple opportunities for volunteers to get involved with Generation One. You can tutor, mentor, teach, coach, paint, clear lots, rebuild, do yard work, demolish abandoned homes/crack houses, and much more. We have some established programs that we would love to have you join! Here is how:
Become a Tutor
Each One Teach One Tutoring is always in need of more tutors. Our goal is to have 1 tutor per child, Monday – Friday. Monday – Thursday, tutors work on homework and through a reading curriculum with the children. Fridays we have an Art day, which we need helpers for as well as leaders. This can also include drama and music. Our need is to have tutors commit to coming the same day(s) each week so that we know how to plan for each day. The more committed tutors we have, the more likely tutors are to work with the same child each week, which leads to the most progress! No teaching experience necessary!

Become a Mentor
Each One Reach One Mentoring is seeking more men and women to walk alongside the youth in this community. The program is a yearlong commitment to spending a minimum of 4 hours a month with a child as well as checking in weekly by phone when possible. We match kids from age 5-18 and you can request the age range you are most comfortable with. A mentoring relationship can really change the life of a child, in a fairly small amount of time.

Become a Basketball Coach
Generation One has multiple basketball teams and plays in several leagues around the city. Basketball is used as an avenue to bring the kids into a relationship with Christ and to teach leadership, teamwork and other life skills. The more coaches the better so email if you’re ready to join the team: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Bring Out a Volunteer Team
Generation One hosts’ teams to do projects including trash pick-up, lot clearing, painting homes, home repairs, building wheel chair ramps and more. Our projects are planned around the size of your group and your skill level! Church, University, Ministry, and Corporate volunteer teams are encouraged to come out and help restore and clean up the area. We welcome groups of 10 to 500 volunteers to come out for a day or for a week. Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
